GovernanceLatham Consulting Group assists medical groups with governance issues with the following services:
Governance Structure DevelopmentThe NeedThe organizational structure of a group medical practice is usually the result of an evolutionary process begun when the group was much smaller and faced less complex situations. Because each physician is an owner of the practice, he or she often wants to be involved in each and every decision affecting the group. Unfortunately:
The above can result in:
Our ServicesLatham Consulting Group can assist you in solving these issues by helping you to:
Physician Conflict Management/ResolutionThe NeedNo medical group is so talented, no practice so unified, no clinic so successful that it is immune to internal conflict. Misunderstandings arise. Personalities clash. Petty irritations mount. If no one stands up to the natural course of human emotions, bitter infighting and backstabbing can erupt. Physicians battle openly for turf or refuse to communicate at all. In the worst cases, mutual distrust ultimately has a detrimental effect on patient care or can even threaten the survival of the medical group. Less dramatic but no less destructive are the issues that stay underground, manifested only in poor teamwork, stress and tension. Our ServicesLatham Consulting Group's Physician Conflict Management/Resolution Services can help your group create a partnership that builds an effective team. Such a team acknowledges conflict sooner than later, works out conflict straightforwardly and constructively, and uses conflict as an opportunity for change and growth. Latham Consulting Group's systematic approach:
Our conflict management/resolution process typically involves individual interviews with all or selected physicians and members of the management team. Additional data gathering (through the use of surveys and other data gathering tools) may be required to gain a comprehensive understanding of how internal and external factors contribute to the conflict. This effort is then followed by meetings or retreats designed to help the group resolve the conflict. Groups engage us when the volatility of the situation is so sensitive that a third party facilitator is needed. Some conflicts involve issues, emotions, personalities and past histories which create such a high level of tension that it becomes extremely difficult for the group to resolve the situation internally. Latham Consulting Group provides an effective, systematic approach to conflict resolution. |
